Here are some extras to try:

Flowers
Flowers can have a very romantic effect on an evening.  They add a little extra life to the environment and stimulate the senses of sight and smell.  If you would like to add flowers to the room or give them as a gift, then you should consider doing a little flower research.  There are many flowers that have specific meaning when given as a gift, such as sunflowers and roses.  Roses come in many different colors, and each color has a different meaning.  If you want to use roses be sure to choose the right color.  The safest choice would be to ask your sweetie what their favorite flower is.  Try not to make it too obvious if the flowers are going to be a surprise.

Dim Lighting
Candle light, paper lanterns, and soft dim lights give everything in the room a soft relaxing glow.  This glow is exactly what you want to achieve when creating a romantic atmosphere.

Burn a Fire in the Fireplace
Creates a warm atmosphere and also has the same glow effect as dim lighting. In front of the fireplace is a great place to cuddle up with your sweetie.

Poetry
If you are not naturally a poet there is no need to worry. There are many resources of poetry where you can find something that will express what you really want to say.  Just be sure not to claim them as your own works. 

Love Letters
There does not need to be a special occasion to write a love letter. You can write one anytime and you can mail it to your sweetie (even if they live at the same address as you), hand it to them, read it aloud, or leave it on the kitchen table beside a plate of cookies or flowers. When you write your letter, take your time and really try to put into words the way you feel.  It may take a little effort, but your partner will definitely cherish your sweet words.

Aromas
Perfume, fragranced candles and incense are a great way to stimulate the sense of smell.  If you are cooking a meal, choose fragrant and savory spices.  Just be sure the aromas are not too overpowering, because this may potentially cause the complete opposite effect.  Aromas are believed to be the quickest way to trigger memories.  Have you ever smelled a fresh baked cookies and the smell brought you back to grandma’s house when you were a kid?  It almost feels like you are there again hovering over those steaming cookies, waiting patiently for them to cool…

Tasty Treats/Play Food
Chocolate, strawberries, grapes, ice cream, whip cream, and oysters to name a few.  Whatever food you choose to tease your sweetie with should be one that both of you enjoy.  This is a great way to stimulate your sweetie’s sense of taste.

Fabrics
Use silky or velvety fabrics in mood setting colors for adding to a relaxing atmosphere.  Wear clothing made of ‘touchable’ fabric.  This is the type of fabric that invites physical contact. 

Camera
Keep a camera on hand to take pictures at just the right moment.  Later you and your partner can add these photos to your memory treasure chest or scrapbook. (see “Romantic Activities”)

Conversation
Conversation should be kept as light as possible, try to avoid  stressful topics such as gossip or work.
